Post Fired for dissing the top guy's wife!

I finally got that big break--a job at a top advertising agency. It was my first job out of college. I hated secretarial work, but hey, it was in ADVERTISING! (WHOO HOOO!). I worked for the head of the media department. It was pretty boring, so one day, to liven it up, I mentioned at a meeting that I thought the woman being featured in a series of commercials was gross and stupid. I didn't know that she was the top guy's wife! OOOPS! I didn't need "the Donald" to tell me the two words I knew were coming "You're FIRED!" I never worked in advertising again, but I DID learn to keep my opinions to myself until I knew the score.

lol...now that's pretty funny. Sometimes the best way to solve a problem is not to create one...

Aw damn! You had a great job and you blew it! My first job after high school and during junior college was at a Fifth Avenue leather goods shop in NYC and even then, I learned to keep my opinions to myself.

It's usually best to remain quiet until you know what's what. Speaking up is great, so long as you know what you are speaking up about so it doesn't bite you in the ass.

Yeah. While it was certainly wrong to fire you for an opinion, it still would have been good common sense not to say something like this at all, or at least unless you are sure it wouldn't offend. After all, even if it wasn't the boss's wife, this is still somebody that the company chose to represent it, and they may not appreciate their decisions being questioned like that. Of course, it would have also been good to think for a minute that the person you were calling "gross and stupid" is a human being. I just hope that you've learned to be more careful with your words, though I do really think your firing was somewhat unjust if it were JUST for that reason. Maybe a suspension was in order, but not a firing merely for your opinion.

This was highly amusing. First of all, why would you insult the woman in the commercials? She was picked for a reason, and so even if she wasn't the head honcho's wife, you would still be insulting their decision. Second, what adult goes into work and calls a woman "stupid and gross?" That just reeks of immaturity and would have probably set a bad tone anyway.

edit: Kane I typed my message before I went off to lunch but didn't get to post it until after. Apparently we think alike.

LOL! Wow! We both said almost exactly the same thing. Are you psychic, or am I? Maybe we both are!
