Post Fired because the boss liked Coldplay!

This happened a few years ago. I called my boss to tell him I couldn't make it to work cuz i was sick, you know, "i think i might have the flu or something"... He said "ok, get well soon". I felt a little guilty. I'm not the type that lies like that. I'm very shy and quiet. Anyways, so I was all dancing and enjoying the concert when i turned around and i saw my boss and his wife a few rows behind. My boss immediately spotted me and gave me a 'shocked look'. I turned around and my face got red. I couldn't even dance anymore. I was so embarassed. The next day I got a call from my boss. "Ruby, how are you doing? Feeling better?" I was like "Yeah..." Then he told he wanted to see me in his office by noon. At 12:03pm I was fired.

I didn't know my boss liked Coldplay! Argh.

Cool

I agree when asking for time off, tell them the truth. I never called in sick when I wasn't and I called in a few times over the years and asked if they really anything that can't wait until tommorrow I really don't feel like coming to work. Of course as a contractor any day you don't work is unpaid but still the boss liked the fact I was honest.

Funniest time I ever asked off what when I was younger I had to fill in for a friend at the local rennie faire (ie swing my sword, kneel before the queen, that kind of stuff). So I called up my boss and told him I needed a half a day to go to the rennie faire. He asked me WTF was a rennie faire, I told him "its where you re-enact medival times, you know swing your sword, joust, march with the queen..". My boss got real quiet and I thought he was about to ream me a new one for asking off for a rennie faire.. After a few mintues he answered "... I don't want to hear about your sex life, just use protection and be prepared to pull a double this Friday"

HDHug,

I know when I explained it the next day at work (ie the Friday he asked me to pull a Double). He thought I was talking about a sex club and that I was into BDSM.. He was a good guy but about as clueless as they come.

Anyone ranks up there with a co-worker calling in (couple of years later different job) sick because he was depressed over the fact he just found out he had un-protected sex with his girlfriend.

WizardofHud,

Well from what he was willing to share with us. He been doing the deed for a couple of months thinking she was on the pill. And she thought he had been fixed. Well she starts asking him where are the scars from the vasectomy (yea these where not the sharpest tools in the shed) and he told her he wasn't fixed and he wasn't wearing rubbers cause she was taking the pills. Anyhoot one thing led to another...

Not really sure what became of it cause he got canned a few days later for eating food out of the fridge that wasn't his.

Ummm, "unprotected sex" means sex without a barrier to prevent AIDS and other STDs. Just wanted to clarify that.

You know, I was thinking about this posting last night, specifically the title, and while it is catchy and appears to be true, the real reason this person got fired is not because the boss liked Coldplay, but rather, because the poster ditched work with a lie and got caught in it. The title ought to be: Fired because I got caught in a lie!

At least the poster had the grace to feel guilty when lying and then embarrassed when they got caught. I'm sure they won't make this kind of mistake again!

OK, I have a question. The boss obviously made it in to work, since he took your "sick" call. He was able to make it to the concert. Why couldn't you have gone in to work, and made it as well??

Post Hi HDhug1200,

I have to make up the titles for these While the lie is part of the story would be accurate, I personally found it interesting that the boss was at a Coldplay concert as well.

Post Hi,

"OK, I have a question. The boss obviously made it in to work, since he took your "sick" call. He was able to make it to the concert. Why couldn't you have gone in to work, and made it as well??"

I've known many people, myself included, that may want time off many hours before a concert.

You have to make up the titles for these? I didn't know that. Is it a bit harder when the stories are so short?

Post Hi brianm,

It generally isn't so bad I try to pick out a phrase/keyword from the content & incorporate it into a title....some are harder than others

Post Hi Bejita463,

Don't tell my girlfriend

Actually, there's a great joke about how one can tell if their roomie is gay. I can't repeat it here, however

I think I remember that quote...don't remember the movie (it has a Coldplay reference).

Cool fired

Although you probably could've worked prior to the concert, I wasn't aware you could get fired for what you did in your off time from work. Regardless of whether or not you called in sick, maybe you were feeling better by the time the concert rolled around.

Default Well maybe

1) Could be a shift job so while the boss works from 9-5 the employee would have been working through the concert.

2) Bosses are famous for taking off time from work that they have no more right to take then the others and then firing anyone they find doing the same thing.
