Hi,
I found this interesting for the following reasons:
1. He did not name the person by name (from what I can tell).
2. He actually had not engaged in any behavior outside of making a comment (there is a difference between thought and action).
If the story is true, do you feel that the firing was justified?

Interesting. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that professors sign contracts when they are employed by the schools that outline appropriate behavior. If it fell withing these guidlines, then yes they were justified in firing him.
Personally, things like that don't offend me, but I'm not the student either.

I am sure that professors probably have to sign something considering ethical behavior. However, the professor only made a comment in this case w/o actually engaging in a behavior (if that makes sense).
On the lighter side, you made the 1000th post to the forums.
For that:
1. You get my undying love and affection (my ex-girlfriends would tell you that isn't worth much).
AND
2. A choice of one of the following books:
The Resume Handbook
Do What You Are
I personally find the second book more interesting because it is based on Myers-Briggs (personality type and what kind of jobs might suit you).

No, that makes sense. It depends on where that behavior falls within the guidlines. I'm not really sure if current guidlines have caught up with modern society and blogging, but it seems to me that it wouldn't be a horrible offense, just a bad decision.

WOW thats just crazy. He got fire for saying that. This is why you dont include too much info like what class and school your teaching at.

Blogger.com has an excellent little piece about how NOT to get fired blogging.

I especially like the mention of The Cluetrain Manifesto. While I am not a super techie guy like many would expect, I did appreciate what they had to say about the internet age & using the medium to interact with customers.
