Hi All,
The August issue of Fast Company has some interesting information on mentoring. The article quotes that mentoring has shown to be a major factor in establishing a successful career.
Some guidelines and recommendations (abbreviated from article):
1. Choose well. In other words, choose a person that is committed to the relationship.
2. Get formal mentors (many companies have mentoring programs).
3. A mentor doesn't have to be a boss.
4. Find expertise mentors (these people don't have to be inside your organization).
5. Think life, not just career. In other words, you can benefit from having mentors in your personal life as well.
Note: I left one out & left out a lot of detail because you should check it out on your own ;)
