Okay, maybe the smarter ones here will see this coming, but stupid little ole me just plunged in and did it, and boy, has this been a learning experience.
I'm a writer, and there wasn't any local networking opportunity that was specific to the writing world. I want to make connections to editors, publishers, magazine magnates, as well as other writers. Last year there was such a group, but it died because the organizer got too busy.
So Einstein here decided to start one up.
While this looks awesome on paper, I have to say that starting your own networking group, a la MediaBistro, is a huge undertaking. It's essentially like starting your own company, particularly when you're arranging for food and beverage service. In the long run this will pay off, but just FYI right now I'm spending at least 25 hours a week on it, mostly just getting the news out. Thankfully, we have been picked up by the media and getting some coverage, but holy carpal tunnel syndrome, is that a lot of work to load on top of a jobsearch!
Now am going off to take my brain out and soak it in a tub of ice while listening to Monster Surf Hits. It's been one of those weeks, and it's only Monday!
