Hi,
Here are some tips on what NOT to do if you know you are going to be terminated.
1. Do not argue your case to co-workers.
2. Do not give up and stop performing.
3. Do not engage in desperate defensive measures (filing stress claims, complaints to HR,etc.)
4. Do not just quit.

Yep you never want to quit cause thats what some company want you to do so they don't need to pay unemployment claims.

The book actually recommends consulting an attorney first (if needed). In some states, I believe, unemployment claims are not always paid if you are fired (depends on the reason why the company let you go).
My personal feeling is that quitting is better on your resume than getting fired.

I agree getting fire doesnt look good on a resume than if you quit. But sometimes being a quitter isnt good either. No one wants a person who quits cause they cant handle the situation.

Up here in the Frozen North, you won't get unemployment insurance if you quit or are fired for cause, HOWEVER:
No company today wants to be sued, however wrongfully, so virtually all of them, no matter what the circumstances, will put "Laid off" on your Record of Employment. You can discuss this at your exit interview, and the company could well be so relieved you're taking it well and offering productive suggestions to streamline things that they'll do it right then and there. Companies, particularly companies with headquarters in the US, are terrified of being sued and hate to do a lot of paperwork to justify their decisions, so if you offer them this easy out, they're likely to take it.
It's a gamble, but a good bet.
